Having been all around the world, I know a good slice when I see one. To help you find the best pizza around town, I’ve decided to taste and review 12 different pizzerias in Newport News.

I’m excited to start digging in, and my critiques will be humorous and lighthearted – after all, finding great pizza should be fun! So join me on my journey to discovering the best pizza in Newport News!

#1 Dino’s Pizza Shop

When I first arrived, I was taken aback by the cozy atmosphere. From the Italian music piped through the speakers to the family-style tables and chairs, Dino’s creates a warm, inviting vibes that is perfect for lunch or dinner. The staff were all friendly and welcoming, too!

The most important part of any pizza experience is the pizza itself – thankfully Dino’s did not disappoint! Every slice was perfectly cooked and loaded with delicious ingredients. The cheese was especially flavorful, and there were tons of veggie toppings for those who like their pizzas “green”. For something a bit heartier, they offer lava wings which are oh so tasty.

Overall, I can confidently say that Dino’s Pizza Shop serves up some of the best pizza in Newport News. If you’re looking for great food and an amazing atmosphere, look no further than Dino’s Pizza Shop!

#2 The Original Pizza Sam

I had the pleasure of dining at The Original Pizza Sam on my recent stay in town and was delighted to find an amazing selection of pizzas. Every pizza was cooked to perfection with just the right amount of crust, sauce, and toppings. And boy, could I taste the difference! The restaurant has an old-fashioned charm that made me feel like I was stepping back in time.

Now, if you’re looking for delivery, you won’t find it here. But don’t let that stop you because their signature pies are worth getting up and going for a visit. Whether it’s the ‘Sam’s Supreme’, ‘Pepperoni Paradise’ or ‘Veggie Delight’, each pie packs tons of flavor that will make your taste buds sing!

I’m convinced that The Original Pizza Sam has some of the best pizza in Newport News and can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for delicious Italian food. Let’s just say – this one’s off the charts!

#3 Donatos Pizza

Their crust is always cooked to perfection and the sauce has all of the flavorful complexities that you would expect from a top-notch pizza joint. The toppings are also always fresh and of the highest quality. Every time I visit, I’m consistently impressed by the amount of care they put into every single pizza.

What really stands out to me about Donatos Pizza is their selection of unique topping combinations. From their classic Italian-style pies with mushrooms and onions, to the spicy pepperoni for those who want a real kick, there’s something for everyone. They even have a few specialty pies from around the world like Greek or Indian style pizzas with tandoori chicken!

Donatos Pizza is definitely one of my favorite places in Newport News for pizza, and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for some delicious, freshly-baked goodness!

#4 Vinnys pizza and pasta

I was especially impressed by their vegetarian options, something I haven’t seen much in my pizza-tasting travels. Even better, they offer a kid’s menu for picky eaters and those with little hands!

The best part, though – this place serves alcohol! Let’s be honest – what goes better with pizza than a cold beer? It helps that the atmosphere is nice and tourist-friendly. Perfect for dates or family outings.

Now don’t get me wrong — Vinnys isn’t perfect. They do lack delivery options, so you’ll have to come to the restaurant to get your pie. The desserts also could use some work. But if it’s best pizza in Newport News you’re after — this is the spot.

In conclusion: Vinnys Pizza and Pasta offers some of the best pizza in town, along with a great atmosphere and plenty of options for guests who want to stick around and enjoy their meal.

#5 $5 Pizza

My first impression of this pizza place was that it was small and unassuming, but I quickly realized the size did not matter. The moment I stepped through the door, the smell of fresh dough hit me with a delicious wave of garlic and oregano that was unmistakable.

From my first bite, I knew I had found something special. The crust was perfection — thin yet sturdy with just a hint of crunch. The sauce was zesty and vibrant with an intense flavor. And let’s not forget those abundant toppings! Every bite included a burst of flavor from the spicy pepperoni or sweet green peppers.

I’m convinced $5 Pizza is one of the best pizzas in Newport News! It’s really a hidden gem worth discovering if you happen to be in town. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an amazing pizza experience!

#6 Vinny’s Pizza and Pasta

The first thing that struck me when I walked into Vinny’s was the atmosphere. The decor is inviting and warm, making it the perfect spot for a casual dinner or even a romantic date night. Plus, there’s usually some great music playing from the jukebox!

As for the food itself, it was superb! Vincent (the owner) clearly knows how to make a great pizza. The crust was light and crunchy with just enough cheese and toppings to make it utterly delicious. I also tried their pasta dishes and they did not disappoint either. The sauce was perfectly cooked, flavorful without being too heavy.

Overall, I’m glad to have visited Vinny’s Pizza and Pasta – I truly believe it serves some of the best pizza in Newport News! Highly recommended if you’re in the area; you won’t be sorry!

#7 Azzurri Italian Restaurant

From the moment I stepped inside, I knew this place was special. The whole atmosphere was cheerful and inviting. The waitstaff were friendly, their pizzas arrived quickly, and they all had steaming hot, flavorful toppings.

Their pizzas are hand-tossed and cooked in a wood-fired oven to create a crispy crust that’s perfect every time. They offer classic favorites like ‘Margherita’ with its sweet tomatoes and creamy mozzarella, as well as more creative options like ‘Smokey Bacon’ with smoked bacon and garlic cream sauce.

The Azzurri experience doesn’t stop with the pizza though – you can also get delicious appetizers like roasted red peppers stuffed with ricotta cheese or antipasto Italiano that includes traditional meats and cheeses from the region.

For dessert, try their homemade tiramisu or proscuitto drizzled with balsamic glaze. It was so good that I almost forgot about the pizza!

Overall, Azzurri Italian Restaurant is my top choice for when I’m looking for the best pizza in Newport News. Their food is delicious, the atmosphere is cozy, and it won’t break your wallet either!

#8 Mellow Mushroom Newport News

I’m no pizza connoisseur, but I know what tastes good and this place nailed it. As soon as I walked in, I was welcomed with the aroma of fresh dough and melted cheese – a sure sign of a great pizza.

My order of The Mighty Meaty was the best I’ve ever had. It came with pepperoni, sausage, ham and bacon, all cooked to perfection on their delicious crust. The combination of savory meats and their perfect blend of mozzarella and cheddar cheeses was truly out of this world!

What really sets Mellow Mushroom apart from other pizzerias is their laid-back atmosphere. Most restaurants are noisy or hectic these days, but at Mellow Mushroom Newport News you can always find a quiet corner to enjoy your pizza in peace. And for those looking for something less traditional, they also have some unique options like their spin on mac n’ cheese topped with bacon!

All in all, Mellow Mushroom Newport News serves up some of the best pizza in Newport News! Whether you’re looking for something traditional or something more interesting, you won’t find better quality or flavor anywhere else.

The atmosphere is open, inviting and cozy. The wait staff are friendly and attentive and the place has a very relaxed vibe.

The pizza was truly outstanding – thin crust that was perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. I had the pepperoni and sausage pie – it was so good I can’t even put it into words! The ingredients were all fresh, juicy, and added just the right amount of kick to every bite.

The best part about Anna’s Pizza? The prices are very reasonable. For a food critic like me who’s constantly searching for great pizza at an affordable price, this is an absolute gem of a find.

Definitely put Anna’s Pizza on your list the next time you’re in Newport News – you won’t regret it! I give it 5 stars!

#10 MOD Pizza

MOD Pizza has an incredible variety of toppings, all of which are cooked to perfection. They also have a great selection of signature pizzas, such as the “Maverick” and the “Cali Chop,” but feel free to customize your own pie too!

Speaking of customization, MOD Pizza allows you to add as many or as few toppings as you want. Whether you want a basic cheese pizza or something more adventurous, like an artichoke and mushroom pizza with ranch dressing, this place has it all.

The best part about MOD Pizza is their fast service. I had my order in front of me in under 10 minutes – and that was on a busy Saturday night! Not only do they get the job done quickly, but the staff is also extremely friendly and eager to help out.

When I arrived at their location, the first thing that caught my eye was the mouth-watering aroma of their pizza baking in the ovens. It smelled divine! But what really amazed me was how easy it was to order my pizza. They had all kinds of options, from vegetarian-friendly pies to more traditional varieties, and I knew exactly what I wanted.

The best thing about Papa Murphy’s | Take ‘N’ Bake Pizza is that they don’t offer delivery services – instead, you take your pizza home and bake it yourself. As a food critic, I love this because it ensures that the pizza is fresh and hot when you go to eat it. Plus, it saves time by not having to wait around for delivery.

The only downside to Papa Murphy’s | Take ‘N’ Bake Pizza is that they don’t offer any side dishes or drinks with your purchase. But that doesn’t deter me in the least because their pizzas are so delicious on their own!

The atmosphere is laid back and inviting, with wonderful decorations and lighting. The staff were all friendly and attentive, which was a huge plus!

Now for the pizza – it was incredible! From the first bite, I knew this place had something special. The crust was crispy on the outside and airy on the inside, while the sauce was robust and flavorful. Topping-wise, I went for a blend of pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, bell peppers, and olives. This combination provided the perfect balance of flavors that tantalized my taste buds like nothing else.

All in all, Vineyards Trattoria & Pizzeria exceeded my expectations yet again – they truly have some of the best pizza in Newport News! Highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for delicious pizza at an affordable price point.
