#2 PIZZATA PIZZERIA
- Offers dessert
The atmosphere was amazing – you could tell right away that this place takes pizza seriously. All the staff were exceptionally friendly, and they clearly had a lot of passion for their craft. I couldn’t help but to be taken in by their enthusiasm!
The pizzas themselves were nothing short of spectacular. The crust was perfectly thin and chewy, with just the right amount of char from the wood-fired oven. The toppings were generous, flavorful — and surprisingly creative too! For example, one of my favorite pies featured zucchini blossoms and melted mozzarella cheese – it’s a flavor combination I’ve not seen anywhere else.
But even more than the delicious food, what really left an impression on me was the level of hospitality at PIZZATA PIZZERIA. The owners stopped by our table several times throughout our meal to chat with us and make sure we were having a good time. They made sure we had enough drinks – which I must say is quite unusual for any restaurant let alone a pizza joint!
In conclusion, if you’re looking for some of the best pizza in South Philly then look no further than PIZZATA PIZZERIA. With their amazing hospitality and delicious food, there simply isn’t a better choice in town!

Their pies are absolutely spectacular, with a perfect crispy-chewy balance in the crust and the most delicious and fragrant ingredients. The atmosphere of Rione is cozy and inviting – it almost feels like you’re stepping into an Italian grandmother’s kitchen!
The best part of Rione is the sheer variety they offer; whether you’re craving a classic margherita, a bold BBQ chicken, or something outside-the-box like their fig pie, they’ve got something for every taste. Plus, their prices are incredibly reasonable! I love that I can get two slices for just $4.
I know great pizza when I taste it – and there’s no doubt in my mind that Rione serves up some of the best pizza in Philly!
#4 Circles and Squares
- Has some vegetarian options
- No delivery
The vegetarian options are great, which was a pleasant surprise. You won’t find too many places that can do such a great job on veggie pizzas.
Aside from that, the rest of the menu is really flavorful and unique. I’d definitely recommend trying out the triple-decker pizza if you’re feeling especially hungry! The crust is perfectly crunchy and the toppings are always fresh.
Unfortunately, there’s no delivery option which I suppose is a slight downside but it’s worth making the trip in person to get some of their delicious pies. Trust me, it’ll be worth it!

#8 Angelo’s Pizzeria
- No delivery
I’ve never had any better pizza than the one I tried at Angelo’s. The crust was thin and crunchy, the cheese was stretchy and the sauce had a robust flavor that stands out above many of the pizzas I’ve tasted. My only regret is that they don’t offer delivery or take out, so you have to eat it right there in their shop. But do yourself a favor and make sure you get a table!
The atmosphere of Angelo’s Pizzeria is really inviting too; it has an old-school Italian feel to it with friendly staff, a warm and cozy dining area, and plenty of seating. The prices are also very reasonable for the quality and size of pizza you get.

#9 Pizzeria Stella
- Has insanely good dessert
- Has some vegetarian options
- Nice tourist spot
- Serves alcohol (and hard liquor!)
The first thing that struck me was the smell – a tantalizing mix of freshly baked dough, melted cheese and spicy pepperoni. I knew I was in for a treat!
The décor is classically ‘old-school’ Italian pizzeria, with red and white checkered tablecloths adorning the tables, and framed photos of classic Italian dishes gracing the wall. The atmosphere immediately makes you feel at home; it’s just like being in Italy!
Next up…the pizza! I wasn’t disappointed. The crust was perfectly crisp yet fluffy, and the combination of ingredients was simply divine. All their pies seemed to contain a good balance of toppings so that each bite had something new to offer. However, the star of the show for me was their signature pie – stuffed with ricotta, mozzarella and spinach. Totally delectable!
And don’t forget to order one of Pizzeria Stella’s delicious side dishes too – they are definitely worth it! My particular favorite is the garlic knots; they’re always perfectly cooked with just enough garlic butter spread on top. Yum!

#10 Nannie Franco’s Pizza
As soon as I stepped into the restaurant, I was hit with the delicious fragrance of freshly baked pizza. The restaurant itself is small and inviting, and I instantly felt at home.

The combination of fresh vegetables, gooey cheese, juicy pepperoni and flavorful sauce all came together perfectly on a thin classic crust.
I decided to order two more pizzas to try – one with anchovies and one with sausage. Again, Nannie Franco’s Pizza did not let me down – both pizzas tasted absolutely amazing. Not too greasy or overly salty – just the perfect amount of flavor in every bite.
I’d have to say that this is definitely some of the best pizza in South Philly! Whether you’re a local or just passing through town, make sure to stop in for a slice at Nannie Franco’s Pizza. Thanks for an unforgettable experience!

Best Deep Dish Pizza – Joe’s Pizza Philly
- Nice tourist spot
- Does not accept reservations
But before I dive into the cheesy goodness, let me warn you about one downside of this place – they don’t accept reservations. I mean, come on Joe, it’s 2021! I had to stand in line for what felt like an eternity, watching pizza enthusiasts drool over slices while I anxiously waited for my turn. It was like a cruel joke, and I was the punchline.
Now, let’s talk about the pizza. Oh my, it was a slice of heaven! The crust was so thick and doughy, it was like biting into a cloud. And the cheese! It was like a molten, gooey lava flow of mozzarella. I’m pretty sure I heard angels sing when I took my first bite.

As soon as I walked into Pizzeria Vetri, the smell of freshly-baked dough hit me like a carb-induced dream. The atmosphere was cozy, with dim lighting and a rustic decor that made me feel like I was dining in the heart of Naples.
I started off my pizza adventure with their Margherita pizza. As the waitress placed the piping-hot pie in front of me, I couldn’t help but admire the vibrant tomato sauce and the perfect balance of mozzarella and basil leaves. One bite and I was transported to pizza heaven. The thin crust was crispy, yet perfectly chewy, with just the right amount of char from the wood-fired oven. The flavors of the tomatoes and the fresh basil danced on my taste buds, and the gooey mozzarella brought it all together in a pizza symphony of cheesy delight.
