The first time I stepped foot into Don Filippo, I was immediately amazed by the sheer size of the restaurant. When I heard that it’s one of the top pizzerias in town, I knew I just had to stop and give it a try.

#3 San Matteo
- Offers dessert
- Serves alcohol
- Has some vegetarian options
This charming Italian restaurant offers a great atmosphere and delicious pizza. The crust was nicely cooked and had just the right amount of crunch. But what truly sets San Matteo apart from the competition is their incredible topping combinations – something I have yet to find elsewhere.
The standout for me has to be the Prosciutto e Funghi, a white pizza topped with mushrooms, prosciutto and truffle oil. The smoky flavors of the ham paired wonderfully with the earthy taste of the mushrooms, all complemented by the fragrant truffle oil. It was truly a treat!
I also sampled their Margarita pizza which was equally delightful, as well as their classic Marinara. All of these dishes were incredibly tasty and were well balanced in flavor.
In addition to amazing food, San Matteo’s service is top notch! The staff were friendly and attentive – they really made my experience memorable!
So if you are looking for the best pizza on Upper East Side then look no further than San Matteo! You won’t be disappointed!

#5 Marinara Pizza
- Has some vegetarian options
I remember the first time I saw this place and how pleasantly surprised I was. The building itself is quite unassuming, but there’s a certain magic to it that can’t be denied. Inside you’ll find an eclectic decor with a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The pizza itself is something else entirely. It’s made with fresh dough every single day, giving it a light and fluffy texture. The crust stays crunchy even when it gets cold! And they don’t skimp on the toppings either – each slice is full of flavor and color.
But the most amazing part about Marinara Pizza is that they make their own sauce from Uglio tomatoes grown in Italy, giving it a true Italian flavor that simply can’t be found anywhere else.
To sum up my experience at Marinara Pizza in one word: delicious! This small restaurant is dishing out some of the best pizza I’ve had in Upper East Side – or anywhere else for that matter!
