Having been around the world in search of the best pizza, I decided to take a little break and sample some slices closer to home. After sampling 12 places in Charlotte, I’m excited to share my final verdict on which one comes out on top.

I had heard about Geno D’s Pizza from some of my friends and thought I would give it a try. Boy, am I glad that I did! From the moment I walked in, I could smell the freshness of the ingredients. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and I knew this place was going to be special.

The service was top-notch. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about their menu. They gave me great tips on what ingredients to choose for my pizza.

As for the pizza itself, it was nothing short of amazing. It was cooked perfectly with a crispy crust yet still had a soft and flavorful center. The toppings were generous without becoming overwhelming or soggy – something only master chefs can pull off successfully!

#2 Pizzeria Omaggio

My first impression of the restaurant was nothing short of spectacular – from the Italian-tiled walls to the perfectly laid out tables and chairs, everything about Pizzeria Omaggio was inviting to me.

But what really made this place stand out from the rest? Well that’s easy – their pizza! They had a wide selection of classic pizzas, as well as a few inventive ones – like their fig & prosciutto pizza, which I’m still thinking about! It truly was one of the best pizzas I’ve ever tasted – and I’ve been around for a while!

The service here is great too; the staff are friendly and welcoming, always willing to make sure that you have exactly what you need. Whether it was answering any questions we had or simply offering recommendations on what kind of pizza they think we should try next time – they really went out of their way to make us feel at home.

As soon as I walked in, I could smell the tantalizing aroma of freshly made pizza. The interior was warm and inviting with a hint of cozy charm. After ordering my favorite combo – pepperoni, sausage, and green peppers – I couldn’t wait to try it out.

The first thing that struck me was the warm, inviting atmosphere of the restaurant. From the charming wait staff to the old-school jukebox playing classic hits, Sal’s really knows how to set a comfortable and enjoyable atmosphere for its customers.

When it came time for food, I knew I was in for a treat! Sal’s offers a huge selection of pizza pies and toppings, from classic margherita to unique combinations like pineapple and feta cheese—and all were amazing! My personal favorite was their take on a classic pepperoni pizza: it had just enough heat to tantalize my taste buds but not too much that overwhelmed them. The crust was cooked perfectly—crispy on the edges with a soft center—and each bite melted in my mouth.

I can confidently say that the pizza at Sal’s Pizza Factory is some of the best I’ve ever had, and definitely worth trying if you’re in Charlotte NC!

#5 Inizio Pizza Napoletana

The first thing that hits you when you enter the restaurant is the aroma of melted cheese and freshly baked dough. You can’t help but salivate as you take a seat at one of their tables.

The pizza itself is amazing. It’s cooked in a traditional Neapolitan style with a thin, chewy crust. The topping combinations are creative and flavorful, ranging from classic Italian favorites like Mozzarella, tomato and basil to more adventurous options like prosciutto and fig jam.

In addition to the fantastic pies, Inizio also has an extensive selection of appetizers, sides, salads and desserts. The servings are generous and the prices are fair.

One of my favorite things about this restaurant is its atmosphere. The staff is friendly and attentive, while the decor creates a cozy vibe with its rustic wooden furniture and exposed brick walls. The open kitchen allows guests to watch as their pizzas are crafted with love by the talented chefs.

Let’s start with the basics: their dough is always perfect. It’s never too hard or too soft, which is key for getting a great pizza crust. As soon as I walked through the door, I was greeted with a warm smile and an aroma of cheese and freshly baked bread that left me salivating. The interior was just as inviting, with cozy tables and a vintage vibe that was very relaxing.

When it finally came time to order, I had a difficult decision to make. Do I go for traditional Italian pizza styles like Margherita or Quattro Formaggi? Or do I try something unique from Due Amici’s menu of ‘Charlotte-style Pizza’? Well, since this is my job after all, I decided to go all out with the Four Cheese Pesto Pizza. It didn’t disappoint! The crispy yet chewy dough was doused in four different types of cheeses plus pesto for a flavor experience unlike any other.

The service at Due Amici Pizza was top notch as well, with friendly staff ready to answer any questions I had about the pizzas and ingredients. They even provided helpful recommendations on which wines would pair best with each style of pizza.

I’ve been lucky enough to try some of the best pizza in Italy, Chicago and New York, so believe me when I say this is a must-try!

First of all, their pizzas are cooked in a brick oven that’s over 100 years old. The taste you will experience from these centuries-old ovens is simply out of this world! The crust is fluffy yet crunchy on the edges and each slice is bursting with flavor.

The toppings are also incredible – they source only fresh ingredients and make sure every ingredient adds something to enhance the flavor. From the classic pepperoni to more adventurous combinations like wild mushroom and spinach, they’ve got something for everyone!

And don’t even get me started on their Sicilian pies. The thick crust and perfectly balanced combination of sauces and cheeses makes them an absolute delight.

#10 Wolfman Pizza

I’ve had pizza in Italy, Rome and Greece, but Wolfman Pizza stands up to even the strictest standards of what constitutes a truly delicious pie. The crust was just the right combination of crispy and airy, while the tomato sauce was sweet and flavorful.

The toppings were especially impressive – mushrooms, pepperoni, olives – all cooked to perfection! I even found a topping that’s not readily available elsewhere – gooey mozzarella cheese curds! A truly unique and incredibly delicious addition to the pizza.

The overall atmosphere of Wolfman Pizza was also top-notch. From the friendly staff to the cozy candlelit atmosphere, it felt like I was visiting an old friend rather than eating at a restaurant. All around me were locals enjoying their pizzas in an inviting environment that made it easy to relax and indulge in some great food.

Not to mention they use only fresh ingredients when making their pizza—making it as close to Italian-style pizza as you can get outside of Italy itself. Plus, they have some unique recipes that you won’t find anywhere else!

When I walked into Da Vinci’s Pizza, I was expecting the Mona Lisa of pizzas. And boy, did this place deliver! As soon as I took my first bite of their deep-dish creation, I felt like I was transported straight to pizza heaven. The crust was so thick and fluffy, I could see Michelangelo sculpting it with his own hands.

It was so deliciously satisfying, I couldn’t help but take another slice, and another… and another.

Let me start by saying that my search for the perfect thin crust pizza has led me down dark alleys, into sketchy neighborhoods, and even through a haunted forest. But when I stumbled upon Pizzeria Omaggio, I knew I had finally found my slice of heaven.

As I walked in, the aroma of fresh dough and melting cheese hit me like a cheesy love bomb. The decor was a delightful blend of rustic charm and modern flair, with walls adorned with pictures of Italian grandmothers giving me the thumbs up, as if to say, Trust us, our pizza is the bomb!

I settled in and ordered the Margherita pizza, a classic that should never be messed with. Let me tell you, this pizza was so thin, it was like eating air, only tastier and more satisfying. The crust was perfectly crispy, with just the right amount of char, as if it had been kissed by a pizza angel.
